Plymouth High School took home the large varsity Mid American Pompon High Kick Championship with a wonderful performance Saturday, Nov. 8, at Eastern Michigan University’s Convocation Center.

   The Wildcats earned 374 points for their routine to edge second-place Canton with 370.5 points. Garden City was third with 364, Novi fourth with 363.5, and Howell took fifth with 363.

   Plymouth is coached by Maria Hernandez and team members include: Emma Buchele, Kimberlin Butler, Kellie Connelly, Dominica Convertino, Jillian Covault, Christina Dreyer, Kirsten Engstrom, Nichole Finch, Danielle Gomrick, Tiffany Granowicz, Anjelica Janevski, Katie Justice, Madison Kinsella, Laura Krahel, Megan LaPorte, Kirstie Liakos, Lindsey Martin, Holin Pardikes, Holly Runyan, Allison Santori, Chelsea Schroeder, Katie Shelton, Kendall Torp, Jennifer Turner, Lauren Turner, Lauren Uhlian, Hayley Wakefield, and Christina Winkler.

   Farmington won the small varsity high kick championship with 359 points. Farmington Hills Mercy took second with 357 points. Birmingham Groves was third with 353, South Lyon fourth with 330.5, and Midland Dow fifth with 330 points.

  Michigan State University won the collegiate high kick category with 364.5 points. Atomic Pom was second with 360.5.

   Novi won the junior varsity high kick category with 360.5 points. Plymouth was second with 352.5. Garden City took the middle school high kick category. Livonia Pom won the middle school all-star high kick category.

   Teams are divided into categories according to size and level of team (middle school, junior varsity, varsity and collegiate) and compete in the following divisions: hip hop; contempory pom/dance; jazz technique; high kick, and guy-girl duo.

   In the contemporary pom division, Pinckney won all three categories. They won the varsity category with 373 points. Birmingham Seaholm was second with 366. Pinckney also won the junior varsity category with 358 points. Seaholm also finished second with 332. Pinckney won the middle school category with 344 points.

   Garden City won in varsity hip hop with 383 points to edge Livonia Franklin by a half point. Garden City’s point total was the highest in any division. Novi was third with 371.5 points.

   Salem was victorious in varsity jazz with 372 points. Pinckney was second with 367. Salem also won the junior varsity category.

   Grand Ledge won in girl/guy varsity and Davenport University won collegiate dance.
