DetroitSt. Anne defeated St. Regis 22-4 on Oct. 25 at Ford Field to earn the 2008 Catholic Youth Organization 7th and 8th Grade Football Championship.

The Eagles used a strong all-around game to earn the victory. St. Anne opened the scoring with a 60-yard run by Damorria Lilly at the 6:33 mark of the first quarter. The extra point failed, giving St. Anne a 6-0 lead.

St. Anne's defense controlled most of the game. Jordan Augousti recovered a St. Regis fumble at their 39 yard line. Lilly ran for his second touchdown of the game on the next play. Shane Morris' kick made it 14-0 at half.

St. Regis was able to close the gap to 14-4 before halftime on a 27-yard field goal by Jason Alessi.

The Eagles finished the scoring with 6:35 left in the fourth on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Shane Morris to Jonathan Reschke. Morris added kick after to make the final 22-4.

In the CYO rules, the kick after touchdown is worth two points and a field goal is worth four. The rule was designed to encourage kicking skills.

St. Anne finished the season at 6-3, though each of the losses were by forfeit. The four points from the  St. Regis field goal were the first points given up by the St. Anne defense all season.

The Eagles advanced to the championship game beating Our Lady of Good Counsel and St. Hugo. The Raiders reached the final game with wins over St. William and St. Michael.

CYO Athletics is dedicated to the development of the total student athlete. Athletic programs encourage young people to express themselves; physically, mentally, and spiritually. We provide equal opportunities for participation, competition and fair play for all member Catholic parishes/schools and their participants to experience positive opportunities in athletics.

At halftime, CYO cheerleaders performed and cross country, football, soccer and  volleyball division champions, teams, players and coaches were recognized and presented awards.
