"It gives you a lift when you watch the boys win and it gives off a great feeling that you take with you," said All Saints Head Coach Brad Walraven. "But it didn't look good here for about four innings."

The game was tied at 0-0 going into the fifth, when All Saints broke through for four runs in the fifth.

Senior Becca DeWyse doubled in senior Selene Rezmer and her sister Louise Rezmer (a junior) to score the first two runs. Junior Melanie Sobczak then singled home junior Chelsea Niemiec, who pinch ran for DeWyse. Sophomore Stephanie Herman Sobczak for the final run of the inning with a single.

"(DeWyse) got the big hit in districts to get us going," said Walraven. "Becca's been doing that all year. She got a big hit last night and it just picks the team right up -- she's just a born leader."

Pitcher Louise Rezmer took the game from there, pitching seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out 16 for the win on the mound. The Cougars did not allow a run the entire post season.

All Saints had to play two games during the day, as they had to finish the final three innings of their 6-0 semifinal win over Cassopolis in the morning. The had been postponed due to weather the day before.

"We had a lot of things going against us," Walraven said. "But you can't control the outcome of the games. In one way it might have helped us because we got some game time in, but on the other hand it would've been nice to just come and play when we were supposed to."

It was the fourth title for Walraven in is 29-year career with All Saints, also winning in a Division 4 championship in 1999 and Class D titles in 1991 and 1988.
