"The fourth quarter was a testament to how hard these guys worked all year," said East Grand Rapids Head Coach Adam Vincent. "We run plenty of sprints all year, that's a major emphasis for us. These guys have a lot of heart and desire, too, and when you get to these games, that's a major factor."

Seniors Jim Ferris and Corbin Ralston both scored three times. Senior Blaine Stahley and freshman Jacob Coretti scored two goals apiece. Juniors Patrick Schlick, Joey Glendening, Pete Baxter, and Luis Vecchio all added goals for East Grand Rapids.

It was the first time two teams from west Michigan squared off in a Michigan High School Athletic Association boys lacrosse final.

Ian McDonald made 20 saves in goal for the win.

East Grand Rapids (16-4) has won four state titles in the decade and seven overall.

"We have a pretty decent system," said Vincent. "A lot of the credit goes to our grade school and middle school coaches. We bring players up through the system, and by the time we get them, they are pretty refined athletes."
