Troy -- Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice reached the Big 5-0.

The Warriors came from behind to beat University of Detroit Jesuit 16-8 June 7 at Athens High School to win their sixth straight boys lacrosse championship and earn the 50th state title in school history.

“This (state championship) is special because we have a lot of seniors and we carried a No. 1 state ranking and a No. 6 (national ranking) on our shoulders. It’s hard to stay on top,” said Brother Rice Head Coach Rob Ambrose.

It was the Warriors third win this season over the Cubs (13-9), 17-9 on April 29 and 12-6 on May 10.

“We played well for a while, but you have to play a full game against these guys,” said Cubs Head Coach Sean Leary. “We started off well and then we had some lapses. We can comeback if we make one mistake, but when you make two, three mistakes then it’s tough.”

Rice outscored its opponents 103-20 in the postseason.
