SAULT STE. MARIE
Two-time defending Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 Champion sent word they are ready to three-peat as they pounded two-time defending Division 3 Champion Bloomfield Hills Marian 125-61 in a dual meet on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The two teams are also Catholic High School League rivals. Mercy is aiming to win their 19th consecutive CHSL championship.
They are also favorites to win their fifth straight Oakland County Champ-
ionship despite graduating a strong senior class. The Marlins have a depth of talent in all strokes, which was apparent against the Mustangs. Mercy won every event, except diving, where they finished second.
The Marlins are led by juniors Maria Bargardi and Nikki Barczak. Bargardi is the defending state champ in the 200-yard individual medley. Barczak was state runner-up in both the 100 and 200 freestyle.
