Bulldogs win regional championship
Dearborn Heights Robichaud beats Flat Rock 62-48 in MHSAA Class B regional final on Thursday, March 10, 2016
After winning its first Michigan High School Athletic Association Class B girls basketball district title in its history last week, Dearborn Heights Robichaud added more hardware to its trophy case with a 62-48 victory over Flat Rock to earn the Region 12 championship on Thursday, March 10, at Tecumseh High School.
Kamaria McDaniel led Robichaud (18-6) with 29 points and Kayla Brown finished with 20 as the potent Bulldog backcourt proved too quick and too athletic to be stopped in the victory. It was the Bulldogs’ eighth straight victory.
Morgan Villemure scored 30 points for Flat Rock in the loss, while Paige Nemeth finished with 13 points. The rest of the Flat Rock roster combined for only five points in the loss.
It was only a few years ago that Robichaud suffered a 0-20 season. “We had no history. This program just needed a kick start,” head coach Jason Wilkins told reporters. “The kids bought into it and we just turned it around.”
Robichaud advances to face No. 3-ranked Grand Rapids South Christian (23-2) in the quarterfinals at Fowlerville on Tuesday, March 15. South Christian has reached the quarterfinals three of the past four seasons.
