St. Mary's Billy Balent in action against Northville on Feb. 7.

Trenton - Defending Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 State Champion Orchard Lake St. Mary's pounded Northville 5-0 Feb. 7 at the Michigan High School Hockey Showcase at the Kennedy Recreation Center

Aaron Schneider opened the scoring for the champs at 10:56 with a power-play goal in the first on assists from Max Uhrin and Billy Balent to make it 1-0 after one period.

Balent and the Eaglets broke the game open in the second as Balent scored three times to put St. Mary's up 4-0. Balent came out firing, scoring 27 second into the second on a short-handed goal from Mike Szmatula. Balent added a power play goal
at the 10:29 mark on assists from Schneider and Dan Stanisz. Balent ended the period with his final goal on an assist from Cody King.

Jordan Kieltyka finished the scoring in the third. Dane Muller got the assist.

Chris Sullivan recorded his third shutout of the season with 17 saves.

St. Mary's takes on Muskegon Mona Shores today (Friday, Feb. 8) at the Kennedy Ice Arena.

The Catholic High School League championships are Feb. 15-16 and the MHSSA playoffs begin Feb. 25.
