Dreadnaughts eliminate Cougars

Dexter beats South Lyon East 9-1 in MHSAA girls soccer district opener on Tuesday, May 30, 2017

  Division 2 No. 6-ranked Dexter eliminated South Lyon East 9-1 in a Michigan High School Athletic Association District 21 girls soccer opener on Tuesday, May 30, at Dexter.

   The Dreadnaughts led 2-1 at halftime against the Cougars before scoring seven goals in the second half for the mercy victory.

   Senior Emily Zeitunian led Dexter with four goals. Junior Sammi Corcoran had two goals and sophomore McKenna Graham, junior Morgan Esch, and junior Claire Ketzner added goals.

   Junior Caitlin Micallef went the distance in goal recording two saves for Dexter (16-1-3).

   Dexter advances to face Tecumseh on Thursday, June 1, at Adrian. Adrian will face Chelsea in the other District 21 semifinal.

   The district final will be Saturday, June 3.
