Bulldogs hold off Blazers

Dearborn Heights Robichaud edges Livonia Ladywood 18-15 in MHSAA girls basketball playoffs on Wednesday, March 1, 2017

In a game of intense strategy, Dearborn Heights Robichaud held off Livonia Ladywood 18-15 in a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2, District 40 girls basketball semifinal on Wednesday, March 1, at Ypsilanti Arbor Preparatory.

To fight the offensive power of Robichaud’s Kamaria McDaniel (Penn State) and Kayla Brown (University of Detroit Mercy), Ladywood controlled the ball for most of the game, using a stall offense. It resulted in a scoreless tie after the first eight minutes. Robichaud led only 6-3 at halftime. The Bulldogs increased the lead to 14-5 after three quarters and fought off a late Ladywood rally to win by three.

McDaniel scored eight points in the win. Monae Palmer and Quentisha Wilson both scored four points.

Robichaud advances to face undefeated Ypsilanti Arbor Preparatory in the district final on Friday, March 3. Arbor Prep eliminated Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard 41-24 in the other district semifinal. Arbor Prep is defending Class C state champion and moved up to Class B this season.
